IBO Player setup guide for Castonex
IBO Player is the only application Castonex supports, and for good reason: it runs on practically every platform, including the stubborn non-Android smart TVs that most players ignore. This guide covers every device, start to finish.
Home/Setup Guide
Reading time: about 9 minutes · Typical setup: 10–15 minutes
The short version
IBO Player uses remote playlist activation. You do not type your Castonex credentials into the television. Instead you install the app, read two identifiers off the screen, sign in to the IBO Player portal on your phone or laptop, paste the credentials there, and the portal pushes them down to your device. Reopen the app and the full line-up is waiting.
What you need before you start: your Castonex activation email (it contains the host, username and password), a stable connection of at least 16 Mbps, and the device you intend to watch on. If your credentials have not arrived yet, check the promotions and junk folders, then contact the desk through the contact page.
Why IBO Player
It installs on almost anything — Android, Fire OS, Windows, macOS, Linux, LG WebOS and Samsung Tizen. The interface is clean, playback is smooth, and the essentials are all present. Two honest limitations worth knowing up front: there is no recording function, and there is no multi-screen view. Neither matters for most households, but you should hear it from us rather than discover it later.
IBO Player also carries a small one-off licence fee paid directly to its developer — roughly €5 for a year or €10 for lifetime activation. That is separate from your Castonex subscription and we do not take a cut of it.
Step 1 — Install IBO Player on your device
Pick the section that matches your hardware.
Android phones, tablets and TV boxes
- Download the IBO Player installation file from the developer’s official website.
- Android will warn that the file came from outside the store. This is expected for side-loaded apps — choose Download anyway.
- Open the downloaded file and confirm the installation.
- Grant the install permission if prompted, then complete the process.
- Open the app. An introductory screen appears explaining the playlist procedure — tap OK and continue to Step 2 below.
Amazon Fire TV Stick
- From the Fire TV dashboard, highlight the magnifier icon and open the search field.
- Search for the Downloader utility, which lets you side-load apps from outside the Amazon store. Select it and install.
- Open Downloader and allow media access when prompted.
- Move to the search box beside the yellow Go button and press OK on the remote.
- Enter the official Downloader code 511693 and press Go. The Android build of IBO Player begins downloading.
- Fire OS will block the install because the file is external. Choose Settings, open Developer Options, and switch Install unknown apps to ON for Downloader.
- If Developer Options is hidden, open About and press OK on the remote seven times — the menu appears.
- Return to the installer, confirm with Next and OK, and the app finishes installing.
LG and Samsung smart TVs
This is where IBO Player earns its keep. Non-Android televisions run closed operating systems that most IPTV developers avoid entirely — IBO Player is one of the few that ships a native build.
- Open the app store on your television (LG Content Store on WebOS, Samsung Apps on Tizen).
- Select the magnifier icon in the top-right corner.
- Type IBO Player into the search field.
- Choose the correct result. Several apps carry similar names — look for the one titled exactly “Ibo Player” and ignore the variations.
- Select Install and wait for it to finish.
- Launch the app. A welcome message appears on first run.
Windows PC
Requires Windows 10 or newer on a 64-bit machine.
- Download the Windows installer from the developer’s download page.
- Windows SmartScreen will interrupt because the file came from outside the Microsoft Store. Click More info.
- Choose Run anyway to proceed.
- Tick the desktop shortcut option if you want one, then click Next.
- Click Install, then Finish to launch the app.
macOS
- Download the macOS build from the developer’s download section.
- Open the downloaded file and drag the icon into your Applications folder.
- After about ten seconds the install completes. Open Launchpad and click the app icon.
- macOS will refuse the first launch because the app came from outside the App Store.
- Click the Apple icon, choose System Settings, scroll to Privacy & Security, then find the blocked application notice and select Open anyway.
- Confirm the choice. It is permanent — later launches open straight away.
Step 2 — Note your Device ID and Device Key
With IBO Player open on your viewing device:
- From the main dashboard, select the profile (person) icon, or the App Info button along the bottom.
- The Device Info panel in the top-left shows two values: a MAC address and a Device Key.
- Write both down exactly — they are case sensitive and you will need them in the next step.
Step 3 — Sign in to the playlist portal
- On your phone or computer, open the IBO Player website.
- Choose Manage Playlist from the top menu.
- Enter the MAC address and Device Key from Step 2 into the login form and submit.
You are now inside the playlist management area. This is the cloud service that forwards your credentials to the app on your television.
Step 4 — Add your Castonex playlist
There are two formats. Your Castonex activation email tells you which one you have — most subscriptions use the Xtream Codes format.
Xtream Codes format (host, username, password)
- From the portal dashboard, select Add XC Playlist.
- Playlist name — anything you like, for example “Castonex lounge”.
- Host — the server address from your activation email.
- Username and Password — exactly as supplied, including any capitals.
- Optionally tick the PIN box to lock the playlist behind a code.
- Click Save.
M3U streaming line format
- From the portal dashboard, select Add Playlist.
- Playlist name — your choice.
- Playlist URL — paste the long streaming line from your activation email.
- EPG URL — leave this empty. IBO Player pulls the programme guide from the playlist automatically. Only fill it in if you are using a third-party guide source.
- Add a PIN if you want one, then click Save.
Step 5 — Reopen the app and start watching
Close IBO Player completely on your viewing device and launch it again. The portal pushes your Castonex line down to the app, and within a minute or so the channel list, the on-demand vault and the seven-day guide all populate. Browse the full channel line-up to see what landed.
Fix the Live TV layout first
Out of the box, IBO Player uses a layout where channel names overflow under the preview window and the guide sits awkwardly. It takes fifteen seconds to fix and makes a real difference.
- From the dashboard, click the screen icon beside the Wi-Fi symbol.
- You are now in Live Screen Style. The default is set to one of two named styles; switch to the alternative option and click Save.
- Channel names now have room, the mini preview fits properly and the programme guide aligns.
- Categories are hidden in this layout — press the left arrow on the remote (or the back gesture on a touch device) to bring them back.
Favourites and search
On the channel listing page, press and hold OK on any channel, then choose ADD. A heart appears beside the name and the channel drops into the Favourites folder at the top of the category column. Given the size of the Castonex line-up, building a favourites list early is the single best thing you can do for daily use.
The search function sits in the bottom-left corner of the Live TV page and looks across every category at once. It matches on specific terms rather than fuzzy guesses, so type the channel name as it actually appears.
Films and series
The on-demand section is deliberately simple. Titles list newest-first by default. Press and hold OK on any entry to add it to favourites. Three controls sit in the top-right corner: the palette icon switches between Modern and Normal themes, the downward arrow sorts by date added, rating or alphabetically, and the magnifier searches the vault.
Activating your IBO Player licence
- Open the IBO Player website and choose Activate Device from the top menu.
- Sign in with the same MAC address and Device Key. If you are already signed in you go straight through.
- Select Activate Device in the left column and pick a payment method.
- Accept the developer’s terms of service.
- Choose either the one-year licence (around €5) or the lifetime licence (around €10), then click Checkout.
- Complete the payment. Close and reopen the app for the activation to register.
This licence goes to the app developer, not to Castonex. Your subscription with us is entirely separate and is covered by our refund policy.
Managing playlists from the app
On the dashboard there is an M3U icon beside TV Archive. Open it and you will see every playlist stored against your device, along with the Device ID and Device Key in the top-right corner. From here you can refresh a playlist’s content, remove it, or add a new one in either Xtream Codes or M3U format using the button in the bottom-right. If you set a PIN when you added the playlist, you will be asked for it here.
Troubleshooting
The app shows no channels after I saved the playlist
Force-close the app entirely and relaunch it — a background refresh is not always enough. If it is still empty, confirm you signed in to the portal with the same MAC address that appears on the device you are actually watching on. A mismatch here is the most common cause by a wide margin.
Picture stutters during live matches
Test your connection while the match is running rather than beforehand. Congestion during peak AEST or AEDT evening hours affects some connections more than others. Where possible, use a wired connection to the television. If the problem persists, message the desk with your rough location and the time it happened — we can move your line to a different server node.
The programme guide is blank or wrong
Leave the EPG URL field empty in the portal and let IBO Player extract the guide from the playlist. A third-party guide source that does not match your line-up is the usual culprit. Refresh the playlist from the M3U panel afterwards.
I want to watch on a second screen
Each Castonex subscription streams on one device at a time. Take a second subscription for a second simultaneous screen — the pricing page lists the options, and the FAQ explains how household setups usually work.
Still stuck?
The support desk will walk you through it
Send us the device you are using, the step you reached and what the screen is showing. A technician replies every day of the week across AEST and AEDT, and most setup questions are resolved inside one exchange.
